Fire Meets the Sea
Dougie was a barnacle fisher. Every morning, before the light had properly made up its mind, he'd be out on the reef — rubber boots, a flat cap, and a patience that had no bottom to it. He knew that stretch of rock the way you only know a place after decades of showing up to it. He knew which outcrops held the best clusters, which gullies flooded fastest, which boulders had been there since before his grandfather's grandfather. He called it his office.
It was Dougie who pointed out the sky on that particular morning — the one that made this painting necessary. "Would you look at that," he said, not stopping work. He didn't need to stop. He'd long since learned to hold beauty at arm's length, to keep moving while everything went molten overhead.
This painting is for people who understand that instinct. The reef in amber and teal. The sky on fire. The sea doing what the sea always does.
