Industry on a Rough Shoreline
Size: 140 x 56cms
This piece presents an urban landscape where industry meets a weathered shoreline. Vertical, spire-like marks rise from a muted horizon, suggesting towers or factories standing against a brooding sky. The top third of the canvas is dominated by a warm, citrine sweep that slices through smoky greys, creating a striking contrast between light and the weight below. The foreground is alive with layered strokes in purple, orange and ochre — loose, textured gestures that read like wind-driven waves of debris or the residue of city life.
I used heavy, tactile layering to create depth and physicality; the surface invites a closer look to appreciate the interplay of line, scrape and brushwork. Rather than a literal scene, this painting captures the feeling of constant motion and the tension between built structures and the untamed edge they face. It’s both urban and elemental — a snapshot of industry tempered by weather and time.
