The Ark

The Ark presents an intense meeting of colour, texture and implied structure. Broad strokes of vivid orange sweep across the upper field like a weathered sail or a moving vessel, while the lower register resolves into dense, shadowed forms that read like machinery seen through sediment. The surface shows multiple layers: sgraffito, ridged impasto, and thin glazes that reveal traces of previous passes. Those techniques give the work a sense of history and motion — something built and worn, then reimagined.

I left just enough ambiguity for the viewer to bring a story: is this a rescue, a journey, or a relic? The title suggests both shelter and a vessel, and the painting responds by balancing organic shapes with a mechanical undercurrent. The orange brings warmth and urgency; the dark passages anchor the composition and sharpen contrast. The result is energetic but grounded, loud yet controlled.
