Thorned Vines

Thorned Vines is a layered acrylic painting that explores the push-and-pull found in nature. Black, serrated thorn lines wind upward and across the canvas, set against lively green tendrils that curl and climb. The background is a muted, textured field of soft blues and grays with vertical scratches and washes that give the work subtle movement and depth. Orange floral accents and small yellow highlights punctuate the composition, adding warmth and visual rhythm.

The piece began as an experiment in texture: scraping, glazing, and then reworking the surface until the plant forms felt embedded rather than simply applied. From there, the thorn and tendril motifs emerged as two voices — one defensive, one persistent. I intended the work to suggest a conversation between forces that protect and forces that push forward. It isn’t meant to judge either side; it simply shows how both can coexist in the same space.
